In this article, I’m giving you nine ideas for Facebook Posts you can create for your Vacation Rental business page that aren’t salesy.
Let’s be honest, no one wants to see you post every day, or even every week, with the same old sales pitch for your vacation rental.
“Rent my vacation rental now! It’s 3 bedrooms and it has a hot tub and great views! I only have these 6 days available for the rest of the year, so book today or you won’t be able to have a vacation this year.” … and here is an ugly photo of the best vacation rental ever.
Oh, so you’ve seen this ad, too?! Golly, I hope that wasn’t your ad. LOL!
To be effective in building relationships with your online audience, you need to generate content that is engaging, educational and inspirational.
At a minimum, use the 80/20 rule when making Facebook posts.
80% Engaging/Educational/Inspirational
20% Vacation Rental Advertising
In other words, for every 10 Facebook posts you create, only 2 should be direct advertisements for your vacation rental. I recommend taking it more to the 95%/5% range, but 80/20 is the marketing standard.
Think of yourself as your audience’s online concierge. When you’re planning out your Facebook posts, think about what questions your guest might have about the area. For example:
Create Facebook posts that answers these questions and gets your audience excited about visiting your area.
As you post this type of content, you build trust with your potential guests and they will look to you when they are ready to book a vacation.
Now let’s get some ideas for non-salesy Facebook Posts you can create for your Vacation Rental business page.
Get out your camera (cell phones work great) and take some photos from around town and your destination area. You’ll be able to use these photos for your Facebook posts and won’t have to worry about online photo copyright issues.
When we visit our rentals in Pigeon Forge, TN, I always make a point to take new photos while I’m in town. I create an album on my phone just for those photos, so I can quickly choose one to create a post. It is super handy to have a variety of photos available.
Browse these 9 ideas and make a list of places you could photograph in your area that corresponds to these categories.
Scenic and landmark photos from destination areas are always popular with Facebook audiences. Include some information about the distance from your vacation rental or some interesting facts about the area in the photo.
Animal photos are some of most engaging posts on Facebook. Use an app and make a silly quote from the animal. Or do a “caption this photo” post to encourage comments.
Think vacation quotes; beach quotes; mountain quotes; hiking quotes; or make up your own.
Grab a local tourism book and get ideas for upcoming events you can announce in a Facebook post. Generate interest in attending the event by mentioning some of the activities the guests can enjoy at the event while whey’re vacationing.
Everyone loves a discount. Follow local business and restaurant pages and share their coupons and discounts.
This is an example of an educational post. Pinterest has excellent tips for packing and traveling with children. Choose a PIN from your Pinterest board and share the link in a Facebook Post. Mention that you have more tips on your Pinterest account and recommend they follow you there.

Do you have some great shopping boutiques in your town? Highlight them in a Facebook post and share their Facebook posts occasionally. Do the same with local restaurants. Build relationships with the local businesses – you recommend them and they’ll recommend your rental! Win, win!
Use your photos of local hiking trails, bike paths, sports stadiums, swimming holes, picnic areas, etc. Again, generate interest for things to do in your area while on vacation.
9. Amusement Parks
Amusement parks are always a big draw for vacationers. How many miles away is it from your rental? Announce when season passes are available, post about discount coupons, create posts from photos you’ve taken in the amusement park.
Use an app, such as PicCollage, to add text and a logo to your photos. I recommend purchasing the app (it’s really inexpensive) to remove the watermark.
