The Cover Photo on your vacation rental’s Facebook Business Page is prime internet real estate. Think of your Facebook Cover Photo as your online business card.
I mentioned this in my recent post “Facebook Marketing Tips”. When someone is clicking over to your Facebook business page, they want more information. They have likely seen one of your posts and now they’re searching for more information about your property.
Don’t make the potential customer hunt for more information! It should be front and center when they click over to your Facebook page.
In this post, I’m covering a few tips on how to maximize that 820 x 312 px area to make your cover photo stand out when someone visits your page.
Start with selecting one of your professional photos or a few photos, if you’re making a collage. A beautiful landscape photo also works well as your background for your cover.
There are dozens of apps out there to use in customizing your photos for Facebook covers. Search the app store or Google “photo editing apps”.
Canva is one of the most popular photo editing programs. It has robust features, even on the free version.
The standard sizes for each type of social media image are pre-configured in Canva. Choose “Facebook Cover,” and your design will be automatically sized to fit perfectly in the Facebook Cover area.
Choose from Canva’s options for customization.
Branding is important. Select a font and colors that will correspond to your logo and business branding. Adding a photo overlay of your vacation rental business logo will make your Facebook page look much more professional.
Next, decide which information you want to include as a photo overlay. Again, think of the cover photo as your Facebook business card.
Here are some ideas for what to include as text overlay on your Facebook Cover photo:
Select a font, color, and text layout from Canva’s options. Enter your informational text.
The Facebook Cover Photo Slideshow offers even more space for you to showcase your vacation rental. Add up to five different Facebook Cover photos into the slideshow.
To select the slideshow option, click on Update Cover > Slideshow (or Edit Slideshow). Visit our Asbury Cottage Facebook Page for an example of the Slideshow option.
An even better option is to use Video as your Facebook Cover. Select Upload Video and follow the on-screen prompts.
You can use a video editor app to create a scrolling slideshow with varying text and contact information.
Galveston Beach Front Bliss is an excellent example:

There’s no time like the present. Click over to your Facebook Business Page. Analyze your cover photo as if you’re a potential guest clicking through for the first time.
Does it accurately portray a stand-out first impression for your vacation rental? Will your potential guest have to scroll and click and scroll some more in order to find basic information about your rental? Is the cover photo appealing? Are you using the slideshow or video options which maximize the information you can provide to your customer?
Regardless of your answers, I encourage you to search your competition. What are they using for a Facebook cover photo? Search other destination vacation rentals from different parts of the country. I’m guessing you’ll find some fresh ideas.
Hopefully, you haven’t learned anything new here, and you’re on top of the game when it comes to your Facebook Marketing. However, if you did learn something new, the good news is that it’s easy to make these little changes.
