I have this sign hanging in my house that says,
“You may touch the dust, but please don’t write in it.”
Haha! Fortunately, we have a great cleaning crew at our vacation rentals and such a sign isn’t needed. However, just like most any property, there are some areas that get overlooked.
My guess is that nearly every property has some area that wouldn’t pass a “white glove” inspection. Cleaners are on a schedule, so there will be times when a dust bunny is going to be missed.
But when we think of a deep cleaning, we really aren’t talking about a small area of dust. Deep cleaning means giving special attention to the areas that aren’t routine, while also giving the property an overall inspection.
In this article, I’m providing some ideas for how to use my deep cleaning checklist to get your property in tip-top shape for the next season of guests.
Whether you’re doing the deep cleaning yourself, or if you’re hiring outside help, this deep cleaning checklist will be helpful. Use it as a guide for making sure every area of the property is covered.
If you’re hiring out the deep clean, take the opportunity to Spring Clean Your Vacation Rental LISTING using these four easy steps.
Deep cleaning takes time and it’s a hard job.
Start by having all of your supplies, tools, and cleaning machines in good working order, readily available, and organized.
Be sure your cleaning supplies include some anti-germ, virus, and bacteria fighting solutions. My article How to Help Guests Prevent the Spread of Flu and Colds includes some great tips.
Another way to save time is to focus on one room at a time. By focusing on each room, you are also less likely to miss something.
Not only is a clean property visually more appealing, it can also help eliminate safety issues.
Deep cleaning should include the inspection of lamps/light fixtures, electronics, glass, furniture, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, security cameras, and appliances.
Use the deep cleaning as an opportunity to check for safety concerns that may not be noticed during a routine property turn. My deep cleaning checklist includes some safety and damage checks.
