There was a discussion recently in a Facebook travel group for our destination. A vacation rental owner posted a photo of a cute coffee mug with a bear on it. She was asking what type of welcome gifts visitors would prefer. The post went crazy! Everyone was oooing and aaaaaing over the coffee mug. “Best welcome gift ever!” “I would stay here just to get the mug!”
This got me to thinking about what I’m going to do for guest Christmas gifts this year. It’s going to be here before we know it.
Each year we leave a small Christmas gift under the tree for all of our December guests. One year it was a handmade sign. Other years it has been a handmade ornament, a Smoky Mountain Calendar (made from my personal photos), and homemade soaps.
Handmade gifts are fun to create and your guests will love the personalization. Let’s take a look at some options that won’t break the bank, but will still show you have thought of your guest in a meaningful way.

Create a lovely handmade ornament using these wooden cutouts from Amazon. Add some flair with customization such as your guest’s name, your logo, or your destination.
Other unfinished wooden ornaments are also available on Amazon.
Clear glass ornaments can be painted or stenciled. Customization options are endless.
Design a magnet using your own photos or use stock images from Vistaprint. Magnets were one of the items requested as a welcome gift in the post mentioned above. They are inexpensive and provide a means of marketing your vacation rental.
Amazon also has blank magnets you can use to print your own customized design.
Let your guests design their own mug! These blank mugs and special markers are perfect for creating a one of a kind souvenir.
