In case you didn’t know, your vacation rental newsletter should NOT be an advertisement for your property! In this post, I have laid out 5 things to include in your vacation rental newsletter. Including these elements will keep your subscribers on your email list and will boost your newsletter open rates.
Write your newsletter as if you are speaking directly to the person reading it.
In order to keep your subscribers on your email list, your newsletter needs to provide…wait for it…NEWS! Hmmm. For instance, your readers will be excited to receive your newsletter if it provides useful and informative content.
Likewise, if you’re seeing a lot of unsubscribes or low open rates on your email campaigns, reassess your content. Would you read it and find it useful? If the answer is no, hello! …you need to change it up a bit.
My post, “4 Ideas for Vacation Rental Lead Magnets” has tips for getting new subscribers to your email list.
First, start your newsletter with a paragraph or two that sets the scene for what is in your newsletter. Here are some example of what to write about in the introduction.
Next, include some information about your travel destination. This section should be the “meat” of your newsletter. In most instances, guests are not coming to the area JUST to stay in your property. They want to explore the area, try new restaurants, and be entertained during their vacation. So this section is your opportunity to give them a reason to come to your destination.
Some things you might include:
If you link to any outside websites, be sure to check the box to “open in a new browser window”. This will keep your newsletter open in their browser and they will be more likely to go back to it.
As I mentioned previously this section should NOT be a big sales ad! Remember to “tell, not sell”. Don’t make your property section the bulk of your content.
Write a couple short paragraphs about your property that is similar to your rental listing content. Entice your reader into booking your property using the ideas from this post.
You want the reader to “feel” what their vacation will be like when they stay at your property.
Ideally, you’ll want your reader to click over to your website. You can ask the subscriber to share the email with friends and family who might be planning a vacation.
Travel tips are a great way to help your guest plan for their next vacation and provide valuable content in your newsletter. The tip doesn’t have to be extensive.
For instance, Pinterest has a lot of great ideas for travel tips you can include. I have a Pinterest board on my vacation rental page just for travel tips and it is one of my most visited boards.
Your email list is one of the most valuable assets in your vacation rental toolbox!
If you aren’t capturing email addresses (guests, inquiries and those who are interested in your destination) and connecting with these folks, you’re missing out on some bookings. I guarantee it!
Don’t be fooled! You don’t own your Facebook fans, or your Instagram and Twitter followers. You also don’t own your VRBO/AirBnb contacts. (How long has it been since you downloaded your OTA contact list?) Any of these platforms can go away or block you at any time.
But your own email list is yours. Use it!
I use Mailchimp for my email service provider. It’s free up to 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month. I download my list regularly.
If you’d like a sneak peek at my vacation rental newsletter, here is the Spring 2019 addition. And I won’t even ask you to sign up! …unless you want to.
I use the Newsletter template when I am drafting my seasonal newsletter. It helps me to not forget to include certain elements and links and provides an area to brainstorm content.
I’d love to see your newsletter! Email me a link or leave it in the comments below.
