Have you ever vacationed during the winter months? It’s an entirely different feel, isn’t it?
Consider this – What do you think of when dreaming of a winter vacation? Here’s what I think of… A slower pace. More laid back. The coziness. Comfort food. Sleeping in. A late breakfast. Quiet relaxation.
As vacation rental hosts, what can we do to appeal to our winter guests and contribute to the atmosphere they are hoping to find?
I have a few tips for adding these cozy comforts to make your Winter guests feel special.
In this article, we will explore three items you can add to your property this Winter. You can choose to keep them for Spring and Summer or just include the items during the colder months of Winter.
We provide hot cocoas, teas and coffees at our vacation rentals. Guests love the “coffee bar” and frequently comment about it.

Purchase in bulk to save some money. I order these variety packs of k-cups to stock for the winter season. It has cocoas, cider, cappuccinos, coffees and teas.
But my all-time favorite packaged hot cocoa are these Land O Lakes variety packs. Guests LOVE the seasonal flavors!
Winter-themed coffee mugs add seasonal flair.
These mugs are perfect for setting the mood on a cold, snowy afternoon. Look for whimsical mugs at your local thrift stores. Guests will enjoy sipping their hot brew.
There seems to be a primal connection with fire that creates a mesmerizing effect. The emotional warmth of a flame envelops your soul.
I can’t think of anything cozier than wrapping up in a soft blanket, while sitting in front of a fire drinking hot cocoa.
Even if your property doesn’t have a fireplace, cozy blankets will add a warm touch. The extra blankets should be readily available for your guests this time of year.
Put out some extra blankets and throws throughout your home. Lay them at the foot of the bed, in a basket, or across the arm of a chair in the living space.
Our guests love these soft, luxury, microplush fleece blankets. They come in a variety of colors.
Quilts also add a special touch. Drape them over the back of the couch, a rocking chair, or store them in a beautiful basket by the fireplace.

Adding some Winter amenities to your vacation rental’s marketing toolbox is a great way to set yourself apart from your competition.
But what about the added costs? My advice is to do what you can and what works for your particular rental marketing. For example, adding coffee/hot cocoa and spa slippers can be easily offset by raising your nightly rate only a dollar or two. Don’t be afraid to add something extra in order to be competitive.
The rental market is getting cluttered with new properties coming into the scene each day. Make yours stand out!
Boot/Shoe Warmers will help eliminate dampness and odors. Your guests will appreciate having a warm boot to step into as they set off to explore the cool outdoors.
Heated towel racks and towel warmers are such a small price for this added luxury! Imaging stepping out of the tub or shower and wrapping up in a luxuriant warm towel. Ahhhhhh!
Spa Slippers – these can be purchased in bulk at a very reasonable price. Just toss them, or wash and reuse. Combine these slippers with some fuzzy socks and your guests will think they’ve hit a jackpot with your special Winter hospitality!
